Hi group,

I've been buying up new toys on eBay, a H&K Crunch Master (AKA
Bluesmaster) amp which has yet to arrive, and a Shield bullet mic which
I've had a while now. The mic was a real bargain and I really bought it
more out of curiousity than need ;-)

The mic looks identical to the Calrad / Argonne bullets that Big Walter
used - with the element set back an inch and a half or so from the
grill creating a kind of resonance chamber.

It has a HOT element - I'm not an electronics boffin so I can't measure
it, but the output to my ears seems louder than my 520 GB and way way
louder than my JT30 (which has just had a replacement NOS MC151)
Actually it is a little too loud to tame. I can get the crunchy tone I
like from my JT30 without swapping out tubes, the GB is just about
there with some eq tweaks, but with the Shield just howls with a 12ax7
and I have to put in a 12au7

I opened it up to look at the element, but was left none the wiser -
it's totally enclosed like a crystal, but thicker; and it's marked
'Prizmo'

Anybody shed any light? Is this a crystal or a dynamic? Like I say,
just curiousity - I really can't believe a crystal could be THIS loud
though!

The elements are indeed crystals...
I have 2 or 3 of these Primo elements....maybe not as hot as yours but
compared to MC151 a little hotter and more bass response.
If anyone interested in buying, please contact me off-list

Wow! speedy response. Iguess this one's a keeper - I just need to
learn how to tame the beast. I read somewhere, that these Jap bullets
in all their various flavours were actually made by Shure. Anyone
confirm this? and if so where does Primo (Prizmo??? - I'm sure there's
a stylized Z in that logo) fit in?

The brand name on my mic was Primo....but you could be right about the
Prizmo..I'll check it later.
I don't think these mic's were made by Shure....
they are big but can be cupped airtight...and thet produce in combination
with the crystal element a bassy "hollow" sound.

Dont try checking it Jimbo.Thats DONT just so theres no confusion.
A DVM will burn the crystal to dust.
Too tame it put how ever many layers of folded aluminum foil it takes
to suit you up against the grill from the inside. That or some foam
cut to fit in the body but keep it big enough so that it compresses a
bit to hold its self steady. Sounds like a good un. And yeah Shure
bought some Crystals from Astatic at one time for their bullet mics
but Astatic didnt make them. Another company contracted the manufacture
of them..I dont know if yours is the same
