Hi all! Being a bass player, I've never posted here before, but my 10 year
old son has recently taken up the diatonic harmonica. Currently he is
teaching himself and learning from books. He soon got bored with Swing Low,
My Bonnie and all the other folk favourites and started working on Blues.
After a short while he put together a shuffle rhythm which I recorded for
him over a backing track of bass and rhythm guitars and a drum machine and
invited some associates to add a lead guitar break ..... the result we've
called B-Train. I describe it as sorta Chicago, Surfin', Blues Metal.

Hope you enjoy. Any encouragement for my lad would be appreciated - he's
called Jez. I think he could do quite well as he gets older.

Hey man. Pretty damned good Jez. Yeah dude I like that. I found that just by
practicing something like you're doing already over and over really helps
you to become familiar with that draw motion. You know that the only time a
person uses it besides playing harp is in breathing?
Start out slow and do 2 draws followed by a blow.
Over and over until you can do it fast. Then try varying the length of the
draws and the numbers of draws and blows. Also if you're right handed try
playing from time to time just holding the harp in only your right hand. It
tends to really free up a persons fluidity in playing. Tap your foot to
keep time with the beat. That way you dont have to think about your timing.
Pretty soon you wont have to even think about what you're going to play at
all. It will just come on out of you. Dont be afraid to move around on that
harp. Just let it go. What you're doing now sounds good. Just keep it up
and before you know it you'll be making Sonny Boy Williamson 2 sound like a
sick cat in comparison. IMO he's the best ever.

Thanks for all the kind comments and good advice. Jez has read all the posts
and will probably subscribe to the newsgroup real soon.
Apologies for not replying earlier, but have just returned from a family
vacation.... guess what? Jez took a couple of harps with him!

Thanks again

Very good!

I myself am a beginner too, (an adult one). Pay attention to everything
Keith said in his post. The guys in this group will be able to give you
lots of help. Don't take it personally if you don't see to many posts
responding to your post for a while. This seems to be the slowest newsgroup
in the world!

Make sure you listen to as much harmonica music as you can! That will help
get the chord changes "in your blood". Blues are a great place to start and
you can spend a lifetime playing. I'm sure your Dad has been playing blues
CD's for you. I listen to a lot of Sonny Boy Williamson 2, Junior Wells,
Kim Wilson, Little Walter, Billy Branch, Charlie Musselwhite, and especially
Lester Butler with the Red Devils.

There are some great instructional videos on YouTube that you will want to
watch at some point. Even if you don't understand most of what they're
saying, you'll get something out of it.

Check these out:
Lester Butler & Alex Schultz:

Lester Butler in a rehearsal (very interesting):

Sonny Boy Williamson 2, (Keep it to yourself):

Ronnie Shellist (instructional video):

Adam Gussow (excellent instructional video):

Thanks for Lester, he is good harper. Hi Patrick, how are you, what happened
with your son blues video, he stpped with guitar playin'? I hope he's not,
share some song of your son and of course, sent some of your work. Well, I
must admit, spent some money and buy some good BOSS effect, split cable and
have good sound. Two amp, one bass 15W amp and one guitar 15W. Sent some
stuff Patrick, I would like to hear you.

Regard

PS
I'm happy, maybe our group wake up;))

My son is showing no signs of stopping his guitar playing. In
fact, he "Heard His Train Coming":

Jez, you should check out my 9 year old son, Andrew, playing some guitar
in the video above. You don't have to be old to "get" the blues.

Zoran, I'm still playing harp. Actually, just today I started figuring out
how to do some fast tonguing chugging riffs.

We are going to have a "Barn Jam" on Sept. 8th. I'm hoping that
I will get a chance to sit in on some songs and maybe get some
video of my playing.

Hope your family is doing well. We're starting a 2 week vacation on
Monday, so we are all in good spirits here! Part of our vacation is
visiting the Martin Guitar factory in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. Should
be fun!

Keep on harpin',
