Hi people
I have just joined this list
I was given a Chrometta 8 in the Key of C for Xmas
(I play fiddle and mando)

I know that this harp has a 2 octave range.
so
My question is:

In order to cover most keys do I really need the Chrometta 14 in the key of
G?

Thanks
in advance

My opinion...
No, that'd only get you more range, which you may not actually need.
Most vocal tunes will fit into the 2-octaves.
You'd be better off mapping-out the scales you want to use,
the tunes you want to play, then practise playing them,
till you become confident using the slide along with your breath control.
If you THEN find you're running out of notes, buy a bigger chromatic.
Don't make work for yourself by learning the layout for 2 different
chromatic harps at the same time

Thanks for your advice

There are a lot of knowledgeable (chromatic) harmonica players hanging
out in the forum who can help you on your way.

As to your original question: yes you will probably want a bit more
range soon. A 12 hole chromatic from a reputable brand (e.g. and in no
particular order: seydel, suzuki, hohner) will keep you happy for years.

Keep the chrometta 8; it sounds sweet and it warms up quickly due to
it's small size and it's extremely portable. I'd skip anything else from
the hohner chrometta line though. They need quite a lot of air (unless
tweaked) and the mouth piece gets uncomfortable after some time.

Hey there lads, a couple of days ago, I ordered myself a Hohner
Educator 10 off ebay.under $50 buck (Canuck) shipped to the door. Most
reviews on 'em ain't bad, plus they are valveless so they should take
a lot less tweaking and maintenance. I'll give a personal review
whence it arrives. Later and Bcool!
