Hi,

I've been given a harmonica for christmas, which I've just been
fooling around with. I can't work out what type it is though. It's
fairly cheap-looking to be honest. It has a total of 32 holes arranged
in a 16x2 grid. The upper and lower holes play the same notes, so
effectively there are only 16 functional holes. And in fact when I run
my lips along it there are only eight separate notes on blow and eight
on draw. It's not chromatic I think, because there's no bar or other
way of altering the notes.

Is this thing just a toy for kids, in which case I need to buy
something better to learn on?

OK, I've just found a pretty similar one on Ebay. Am I wasting my time
trying to learn on this one?

Looks like a toy tremolo and for that price, can't be much more then a
toy. Allen

Sounds like a tremolo. Are there any brand names on the harmonica? Allen
