Post by JOBHi fellow harper's! - This Superlux D112C microphone looking a bit like a
Shure bullet, I've never seen before - it's on eBay as item # 320083315267 -
I kinda like the shell with the 'ergonomic' fingergrip. Does any of you guys
have any experience with this mike? - JOB
I got one just last week from Thomann, for 58 Euro including shipping.
I haven't had a chance to try it out in a live gig setting, but I'll
share my experience of it so far.
The mic looks superfically like a Green Bullet, and is about the same
size as a JT30, slightly shorter and slightly wider. It has 3 finger
grooves across the top of the mic, to aid in getting a grip and the
sides are flattened off. The mic is finished in a dark blue/green
metallic finish, which looks hardwearing for the body and a light
silver grey for the grill. the finish looks much better than I've seen
in the publicity photos on the internet. There is a volume control in
what would be the stand hole, with a rubberized volume knob. The
volume control has 2 stages, with a definite click half way round on
the pot. From inital playing I'd guess it's a linear control- most of
the volume increase is towards the end of the travel. The cable is
hard wired in, but unlike the green bullet, there is a small hex nut
holding in the cable visble. there's around 6 metres/20' of cable. The
mic is heavy, and feels solidly constructed. The front of the element
is visble through the mesh, and is about 1 1/4" across.
So how does it sound, you may ask?
I tried it up against my Shure in the tail light shell, and a Hohner
Bluesblaster. Volume and tone on the amp set the same and all volume
controls wide open on the mics. The Superlux sounds very much like the
1977 US made R44 Shure CM element in my homemade mic, only LOUDER! The
spec sheet gives a figure of -48dBV, and I'm inclined to believe it.
I held the mics down at the level of the speaker cone and aproached
until I got feedback. First to feedback was the Blues Blaster, oddly.
I've always thought it to be less feedback prone. Then it was the
Shure CM, and finally the Superlux.
When I've had the chance to take it out to gigs and use it more fully,
I'll give a more informed report.
