I just discovered this group and am really glad to find you. I am just
getting serious again about blues harp after many years just playing
in the car with myself. I started playing at a workshop in 1966 with
Paul Butterfield, been on and off since - got pointers along the way
from some great harp players (Charlie Musclewhite, drunk onenight in
one of his down periods in a San Francisco bar), Huey Lewis (one of
the great hearp players I've ever heard, but not famous for it), Sugar
Blue - but I guess just time and osmosis did the rest. But for the
last few years, after moving to Florida, things have been slow,
especially since there is almost no blues scene here. But I jammed
with a small band othat includes some blues withtheir other tunes, we
clicked and now I am part of the band! Almost forgot how much fun it
is - not counting all the $$$ I just spent to upgrade my equipment and
add a few additional Lee Oskars. I'm playing through a Shure Green
Bullet I bought myself around 1970-something, but am interested in
experimenting with different mics. Picked up an Epiphone Valve Junior
amp - heck of a sound for $99...I mic it thru the PA.
I started looking for better, more discrete ways to control volume
while playing (I have always done that by controlling the mic position
and cupping tighter or looser, etc.) So I picked up an Art Tube MP pre
and a SABINE FBX SOLO Feedback Suppressor on eBay (the GB tends to
feedback some with the Valve Jr. Anyone have any experience using a
feedback suppressor??? I am hoping it doesn't affect the tone or
something...seemed like a good deal $24 on eBay, retail around $300)?
Finally won a Mike Clements Harmonica Preamp which should arrive soon
- anyone know much about these, almost nothing on the web (apparently
hasn't been made for ten years or so)??? You wear it on your belt. I
thought it would be a good way to control volume, but it has a lot of
other interesting features.
Well, that should be more than enugh introduction for now. Hoping to
get to know you all better - and enjoy reading all of your posts.
