I'm deeply saddened to pass on this info. I received a call from my
friend Scott Cable this evening who has been playing guitar with
Carey. Scott told me that Carey had passed away around
10:30 PM on Sunday. I was blown away to say the least. Carey was a
VERY inspirational player and a great man. As harmonica players he has
touched us all. Those who were fortunate enough to meet him or those
who knew him were very lucky to have been in the presence of one of
our pioneers. Please take a moment for Carey and his family. RIP
brother.

Sad news, indeed.

Life goes on. Play your tribute Nate.
And let all of us just live and love, while we still have the time.

True John. So sad for harpers. Let's play some tune for him.

Carey was down here in Tampa several years ago at Skipper's Smokehouse along
with Gary Primich and some other harp players. While we were hanging out in
the green room at Skipper's, Carey asked Gary and myself if he could 'buy us
a drink'. Well, yeah.
We went out to the parking lot and Carey's big Cadillac was backed up near
the green room door. He popped the trunk and in the right side was a tool
box kind of like the plumbers carry -- a longish wooden open topped tool box
with the long pipe handle the length of it. Inside the tool box was about a
dozen bottles of fine whisky's, etc. in paper bags. We passed the bottle.

Later that evening, I learned a technique from Carey I still use
occasionally. That night he played his harp into a Leslie synth which made
his harp sound like a boomin' Hammond B3 organ. I think I went out the next
day and bought a Korg rotary synth box.

Add Carey to the list of great harp players that now play in heaven....what
a band that's got to be to listen to. He was a pretty neat guy, willing to
share his knowledge.
