XB-40 WARNING WARNING!!!!!!!!! XB-40 WARNING WARNING!!!!!!!!
PLEASE READ THIS COPY OF AN E-MAIL I SENT TO HOHNER AT THE BEGINNING OF
LAST WEEK. IT WAS DELETED FROM THEIR COMPUTER WITHOUT BEING READ SO I
FORWARDED IT TO HOHNER IN THE US WHO FORWARDED IT TO GERMANY.

Dear Sirs
I have been playing harmonicas for over 40 years. I have bought
HUNDREDS of Hohner Blues Harps & Super Vampers. As I also play Scottish
traditional music
I also have quite a large collection of Hohners Chromatics.
Until a couple of years ago I even possessed a Hohner Tremelo
sextet until it was stolen which I suppose says something about
how attractive they are. I have never had any cause to complain - not
until now.

In March 30th this year I bought two XB-40s one in G, one in D,
from www.theinstrumentstore.com I had read some articles praising
this harp and when I heard a sample from the Internet I was impressed.
Their versatility was something I had been looking for in a harmonica.

Today I was playing a traditional number using tonguing and vamping
when
I heard one of the noted start to go sour. I continued playing
thinking
that it would fix itself. Suddenly something flew down my throat and
got
caught there. I started to cough violently and was unable to breath
properly.
After about 15-20 seconds things were getting worse and I panicked. I
was
alone in the house. I honestly thought I was going to die. I started to

run outside and tripped on a carpet and landed on my chest, winding
myself.
I felt something in my mouth and spat it out. I enclose a picture of
the object.
THE OBJECT WAS CA. 15mm LONG, REED-SHAPED PIECE OF PLASTIC
WHICH I GUESS IS A VALVE)
Conclusion: there is obviously a design/manufacturing fault in the
XB-40, a
potentially lethal one.

For my part, I will never play an XB-40 again. I'm too scared.

I now feel that Hohner must take steps to avoid this happening again.
Rethink the design or manufacturing process. YOU MUST WARN OF THE
POTENTIAL DANGERS!!!!
If Horner convince me that they're taking the necessary steps to
avoid a reoccurrence
of this incident then all and well. If they do not then I will have no
alternative
but to contact media and relevant web sights.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO ALL YOUR HARP BLOWING FRIENDS.

built it this harp bad, but very mean is that Hohner do this Harp. I'll buy
mine from coast2coast music. I was astonished, because I'll pay for this
peaces G one around 80$, it is a bunch of money especialy from us who lived
in tranzition country. My dear friend this isn't joke, this is very serious.

No Zoran I wasnt putting you down. I can see how sucking a plastic
windsaver down your windpipe could shake a person up. Take the covers
off and check for loose valves. Re glue them if they need it. It doesnt
surprise me that the harps are faulty. Hohner sells some real junk. The
only time I'll buy one is if theres no other choice. Thats not too
often so I dont own many of them.

Yeah I listened to it Zoran and was impressed. Being it isnt his native
tongue he's singing in the vocalist did very well. He doesnt sound like
a black man from the Delta but no one does except black men from the
Delta. Meaning that IMO most white guys cant sing the Blues for shit.
The band did well enough that I think they could come to the U.S.A. and
perform while being appreciated. I prefer LO ,Huang and Suzuki harps
Zoran but after a reed gapping any brand will do well enough for me.
I've bought too many Hohners that had holes burnt through the reeds
,the gapping looks like a troop of drunken monkeys did it and they just
dont seem to last long before reeds start getting fatigued. Also I dont
care for their little scam of selling 3 different harps under 25
different model names. They just change cover plates and stamp a
different name on them. For being one of the oldest harmonica companies
they sure seem to know the least about making them.

Conclusion: there is obviously a design/manufacturing fault in the

For my part, I will never play an XB-40 again. I'm too scared.
I now feel that Hohner must take steps to avoid this happening
again.

Rethink the design or manufacturing process. YOU MUST WARN OF THE
POTENTIAL DANGERS!!!!
If Horner convince me that they're taking the necessary steps to
avoid a reoccurrence
of this incident then all and well. If they do not then I will have

I had a drumkit once that I had to keep a .357 in the stickbag. Little
crud bar in Piedmont, we got to be "house band", or whatever for years
ago.

It felt like recon getting to the bar just for piss beer. And we
didn't get paid either, just piss beer. Oh and a place to practice
during the daylight.

You guys got a windsaver jammed in your wind pipe. You think thats
bad....Silk sucked the whole damned brass reed down his throat. At
least a windsaver doesnt crawl. I sucked a spider out of one of mine a
couple of years ago. All I can say to you is " you knew the job was
dangerous when you took it "
XB-40 WARNING WARNING!!!!!!!!!
Their versatility was something I had been looking for in a harmonica.

something needs to be said though, that he had a bad reed with obvious
problems and continued to play despite the problem by admission. if a reed
needs more than a tap in your hand (eg to get rid of a saliva build up) then
you should investigate it... a bit of learning how to plink a reed doesnt
hurt.
